There are various reasons why we decide to install electric gates to our properties. Electric gates can enhance the look of your property as well as giving you privacy and security. There are a number of factors to contemplate before you make your final choice of electric gates.

The different types of electric gates available are swing gates or there are sliding gates. Electric gates that swing open either use hydraulic arms attached to the back of the gate, or underground operators. Swing electric gates with underground operators are aesthetically pleasing because all the workings are hidden from view. The advantages of hydraulic arms are they are easier for maintenance purposes, with minimal invasive work to the actual ground surrounding the electric gates. If the ground is sloped then swing gates are the only choice, as sliding electric gates cannot work on a gradient. However, if there is minimal space for electric gates to swing into, sliding gates are a better option.

The two main options for the material to use for your electric gates are wood or metal. If you decide that you would like wooden gates then choose either iroko or oak wood, which will then be finished with an external lacquer which can be a variety of shades to suit your property. There are three main shapes for your electric gates, flat top, up-swept arch and down- swept arch. These three shapes apply whether you choose wood or metal. Wrought iron gates can be grand and imposing or plain and simple depending on your preference. Galvanised, powder coated metal electric gates are a popular choice because they require minimum maintenance compared with wooden electric gates. If you already have gates in situ, then it is possible that automated operators can be fitted to the existing gates.

If privacy is your reason for choosing electric gates then you may be inclined towards wooden gates which will afford you more privacy than metal electric gates. Another thing to consider if you are security conscious is whether your gates can be scaled by potential intruders? If security and privacy are your deciding factor, then a close boarded electric gate may be necessary. These tend to look better in wood, and have a double bonus of blocking your property from sight and are difficult to climb.

With all the information digested, you can now make an informed decision as to what all your options are regarding your choice of electric gate. In all instances, the best advice is to choose a company to install your electric gates that is prepared to offer a thorough survey and risk assessment, and whose instillations always comply with British Standards associated with their safety. By considering all the options associated with choosing electric gate, you can make a confident choice suitable for you and your property.

Salto electric card access systems comprise a smart card reader, along with cards that allow individual memory sectors within the card to be programmed individually. These cards are encrypted with data that mean the card can be set up to read and write information from that card. In this way, Salto access cards are the next technological step from swipe card readers and proximity cards. Just one Salto access card can be used for transport, photocopying, printing, access control, vending machines and as an ID card. Pretty smart, eh?

Salto products boast cutting-edge access control technology tailored to the needs of individual business and private clients. Salto’s inspired concept in securing buildings offers a groundbreaking new way to control access to your building. Without the need for complex wiring, as required by previous entry systems, Salto access systems, built into door handles are a simpler and less invasive alternative. The door can only be unlocked using a pre-programmed Salto card.

Salto i-lockers have also revolutionised secure access in public places such as gyms. Not only does the i-locker increase locker security, but also keeps an audit trail to track use of lockers. It is indispensible new technology already widely used in savvy offices, hotels and sports clubs.

For existing latch locks, there is the Salto Euro Profile Cylinder, which can be easily fitted into a latch lock where the latch is operated by the existing cylinder. A card reader is built into the end of the cylinder, where the key would usually be inserted. The door is opened using a standard turn knob. If this seems a little fiddly, you may prefer to choose the Salto slim line handle set, which features a built in Mifare card reader on the outside. Able to fit the majority of standard latch locks, the unit contains handles, batteries and Mifare reader, and utilises the Salto virtual network to do its job. Along with cards, the unit can even be operated by mobile phones equipped with NFC technology.

Salto access control systems are seeing in a new age in access control technology. Not only are they technologically advanced and easy to use, but they also have a sleek, futuristic look – perfect for companies who like to move with the times.

In the middle of London’s busy media, advertising and entertainment district, near Carnaby Street, in the heart of Soho, is H2 Bike Run. Featuring over one thousand four hundred lockers, all equipped with state-of-the-art electric locks from SALTO, this gym and bike club for cyclists and runners on the commute is the next big thing in healthy commuter living.

The brainchild of property developer and keen cyclist, Piers Slater, H2 Bike Run was born out of Slater’s own frustration with arriving at work hot and sweaty from cycling to work, and having to shower and change in poor facilities. H2 is the ground-breaking solution to this problem.
Cycling to work is growing in popularity in the capital. Commuters are growing tired of cramped, unhygienic tubes and buses. Instead, people are increasingly aiming to combine a healthy lifestyle with saving money and the planet through cycling. H2 combines the demand for bike storage – in Soho parking, even for cyclists, is scarce – with luxury showering and changing facilities, as well as a small gym and a range of additional services. These services include sports therapy, laundry service, bike servicing, and cycle retail and repairs. This is in addition to the large volume of SALTO lockers that will prove a real godsend to cycling commuters.

Built on the site of a former car park, H2 Bike Run was set up with a £1.9 million investment, and is just the beginning! Slater plans to develop the H2 concept into a chain across London, having identified a demand for up to twenty additional clubs across the capital. Already, ten locations are marked for development, where the entire catchment area is within a five minute walk. This should be exciting news for commuters whose time constraints and needs are ideally catered to by the H2 brand.

Of utmost importance is a high level of security for members, and so Slater was determined that the extensive locker facilities in the club should be perfect from the outset. Commuters need to feel safe leaving their money, smart phones, laptops and so on, and knowing this, Slater identified the ideal solution. That solution was SALTO, whose XS4 electronic locker features state-of-the-art access control which is both ultimately secure and easy to use.

“As world leaders in advanced battery powered wireless access control solutions, the SALTO XS4 electronic locker lock was ideal for H2 Bike Run,” remarks Chris Saxby of Ansador Ltd, SALTO’s local business partner. “Working in consultation with Piers Slater and SALTO we designed and installed a highly secure and flexible access control system to meet all of the security demands of the locker room environment at H2 Bike Run.

The XS4 locker lock can be fully integrated with the SALTO access control solution or be operated as a stand-alone system. Part of the brief was that the lockers had to be flexible enough to allow for change of use patterns, allowing for permanent storage use or variable – maximum 2 hours – use, so to achieve this we fitted 1,400 lockers locks as well as 9 XS4 E9450 electronic escutcheon handle sets to provide the benefits of full access control rights programmed via software as required and an automatic audit trail facility to record the last 1000 events at each locker.”

The handle of the XS4 locker is ergonomically designed for easy use, even with wet hands. It features a durable, wipe-clean construction which is highly resistant to physical wear and tear, chemicals and UV radiation. What is more, the electronic components, locking mechanism and battery pack are all located inside the door, keeping the locker safe from potential vandalism or sabotage.

The access reader is built into the locking handle and the ID carrier – key card, wristband, key fob or bracelet using i-Button, Mifare, Mifare plus, DESfire, DESfire EV1, Ultralight C, HID iClass, Legic, Picopass or SKIDATA technology – is simply presented to the reader and the XS4 locker lock will grant or deny access. A family option allows for multiple ID carriers to operate a single locker if required.

H2 Bike Run boasts over three hundred secure bike parking spaces inside the building on Josta racks. In addition to the wide range of well-appointed facilities, including hair straighteners and driers in the changing rooms, there is also a large spin studio on site. Affiliated with a top quality, New York based spinning programme that guarantees a serious work-out, H2’s spin classes let members know who the instructor will be, as well as whether to expect an endurance, interval, strength or race/recovery ride. Target heart-rate zones are also indicated.
As well as providing a welcome facility for individual members, H2 Bike Run will also appeal to employers, with the chance of corporate membership offering a cost-effective alternative to providing their own facilities for cyclists and runners.

With exciting plans for expansion across London, and further afield into other cities, H2 Bike Run is set for success. And with the flexible and highly secure XS4 locker system in place, this is a revolution in health and fitness that has your safety and security in mind.

So, you’ve decided that you need electric gates for your property. The next decision to make is exactly what sort of electric gates are right for you. There are a number of factors to contemplate, and you must be confident to have considered your choice from all angles before settling on a set of electric gates for your property. So, before you make your final decision, be certain that you have considered everything thoroughly.

Let’s begin by talking about the different types of electric gates available. There are swing gates and there are sliding gates. Electric gates that swing open either use hydraulic arms, fixed to the back of the gate, or underground operators. The great thing about underground operators for swing electric gates is that the workings are hidden from view, which has the pleasant effect of causing the electric gates to open ‘as if by magic’! Hydraulic arms maybe easier for maintenance purposes, with minimal invasive work to the actual ground surrounding your electric gates. Swing gates are also the only choice if the ground is sloped, as sliding electric gates cannot work on a gradient. On the other hand, if there is minimal space for electric gates to swing into, sliding gates are the best option.

Once you’ve decided on whether to choose swing or sliding electric gates, and if ‘swing’ what sort of operating mechanism you would prefer, then it is time to consider the material of your electric gates. The two main options are wood or metal. Wooden electric gates are a more mellow, homely and ‘countrified’ choice, suitable for the majority of domestic properties. Choose either iroko or oak wood, which will then be finished with an external lacquer which can be selected from a variety of shades to suit your property. You can choose from a selection of different shapes for your electric gates, too. The main three shapes include flat top, up-swept arch and down-swept arch. These shapes apply whether you choose wood or metal. If you want your electric gates to be something of a feature, a decorative first impression of your property, then a popular choice is wrought iron electric gates. Galvanised, powder coated metal electric gates require minimal maintenance compared with wooden electric gates, as well as adding a touch of elegance to your property.

Another thing to consider when choosing a set of electric gates for your property is the matter of security. Are you comfortable with outsiders being able to see through the electric gates? Is it a concern as to whether the gates can be easily scaled by a human? If security is a deciding factor in your choice, then a close boarded electric gate may be necessary. These tend to look better in wood, and have the double bonus of blocking your property from sight, as well as being difficult to climb for any potential intruders.

Hopefully, you will now have a more full idea of the options available to you in choosing electric gates for your property. Perhaps you already have gates, and wonder whether they can be automated? The answer is often ‘yes’. However, in all instances, the best advice I can offer is to choose a company to install your electric gates that is prepared to offer a thorough survey and risk assessment, and whose installations always comply with British Standards associated with their safety. By considering all the options, and knowing the ins and outs (so to speak!) associated with choosing electric gates, you can make a confident, informed choice suitable for you and your property.

The standard door lock has been with us for many centuries. However, with new Salto products, and the rise of alternative entry systems, the old lock and key formula that we know so well, is now taking on technological transformation. The rise of new forms of access systems, such as those pioneered by Salto, are so popular because they have revolutionised the way we protect our property.

Salto products work on systems that are easy to use, more safe and more efficient than key locks. From card access to futuristic fingerprint access, Salto is delivering up-to-the-minute technology for businesses and homes. A domestic disturbance usually means the necessity to get the locks changed on your property. With Salto, changing access privileges is simpler and cheaper than the costly reliance on a locksmith, which has been a nuisance for generations.

In all types of property, Salto access devices are a great way to keep safe and secure, whilst celebrating technological advancements that were once merely the stuff of science fiction and spy movies! The opportunity to pre-programme your personalised Salto system to regulate access to your property is an advancement that puts you in control of your property in a way that traditional lock and key combinations could never do.

The Salto electronic locking system offers a choice of different card readers built into the door handle, such as an iButton ID-carrier, smart card or proximity card. Salto systems are ideal for overcoming the necessity for traditional wiring associated with other access control systems. However, Salto still offers all the advantages of a wired system, including: a full audit trail, access level and time zones, integration with door intercom and CCTV, external rated readers, and conveniently, the Salto system is linked to your PC, for ease of management.

Together with stand alone electronic locks for individual doors, which not only ‘read’ but also ‘write’ to cards, wired online readers then report to a PC: the audit trail for the ‘stand alone’ locks and readers is downloaded onto the card whenever it is used, which then downloads onto the online system when it is used on that reader. For stand alone locks, a hand held portable programming device is used, which acts as a messenger between the door and the PC for programming and downloading information.

It may sound complex, but like any significant techonological development worth its Salto (see what I did there?), the Salto system is easy to learn how to use, as well as offering increased security for your premises than traditional lock and key systems could offer. There is such a wide range of Salto entry systems that it is easy to choose a Salto access system to suit you.

Automatic sliding doors are an increasingly popular choice for business premises. Whatever the function of your business, a sliding door always looks professional, as well as being an easy and convenient method of accessing your premises. Sliding doors can handle a large flow of pedestrians, and sliding doors are also ideal for complying with disability access guidelines. Even parents with pushchairs and prams find sliding doors the easiest to contend with when entering a building. In short, sliding doors are widely accepted as being the best choice of door for any modern business.
The first sliding doors were invented by Dee Horton and Lew Hewitt in America, in 1954. Horton Automatics, founded by Horton and Hewitt themselves, developed and sold the first sliding doors in 1960. The idea for sliding doors came to Horton and Hewitt when they noticed that normal swing doors had difficulty operating in windy conditions. So, the pair went to work inventing sliding doors that could cope with high winds in a way that traditional swing doors could not. The very first sliding doors were installed in the city of Corpus Christi, at the Old Driscoll Hotel, for its Torch restaurant. However, the first sliding doors in operation, before the sliding doors of the Old Driscoll Hotel, were donated to the City of Corpus Christi for its Shoreline Drive utilities department. Ever since, sliding doors have rocketed in popularity worldwide.
In spite of their massive commercial success, especially after the advent of shopping malls, sliding doors have never really taken off for domestic home use. Though the potential to create slick, ultramodern style through the use of sliding doors in sophistocated homes could make sliding doors a distinct choice for interior designers, very few homes seem to use sliding doors. Perhaps one reason for this is the potential for breakdowns, which are a rare possibility with sliding doors. Regular, swing doors which are traditionally wooden, can be easily chipped and damaged in everyday use. However, the cost of replacing a swing door, as opposed to that of replacing sliding doors, is considerably lower. Nonetheless, I for one would like to see sliding doors used more regularly in luxury homes, as in my mind sliding doors still have that futuristic, Star Trek quality about them.
Star Trek may have been the first place that many people encountered sliding doors, aside from their use on elevators in the 1960s. The sliding doors in Star Trek, however, were operated manually off-screen. Though there was the technology, at the time of the first Star Trek episodes, to use sliding doors on-screen, manually operated sliding doors were chosen. This was potentially a cost-saving measure, but also for maximum effect. In Star Trek, the artificial intelligence that controlled the sliding doors appeared to be able to read the characters’ minds, and open and close according to the characters’ intentions. There are many inconsistencies with how the Star Trek sliding doors worked in those early episodes, and those inconsistencies were down to the requirements of the sliding doors in specific scenes. There are also plenty of Trekkie bloopers showing what happens when the sliding doors didn’t open fast enough. That is one thing about sliding doors – you do still need to pause briefly while the sliding doors open!
Sliding doors are possibly one of the most noteable inventions of the twentieth century, providing an ease of access and a professional look wherever they are used. When pushing your trolley out of the supermarket into the car park, where would you be without the sliding doors that allow you to pass seamlessly from indoors to out, without having to grapple with troublesome door handles. The only real downside that I can think of when it comes to sliding doors is that their use renders chivalry surplus to requirement. With sliding doors, no one has the opportunity to hold the door open for anyone else, making it much harder to spot a chivalrous character about town!

Ansador are proud to now be ISO 9001 & 14001 approved.

Whats is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 was developed to provide a management system to help organisations reduce their environmental impact. The standard provides the framework for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the environmental by:

Reducing harmful effects on the environment

Providing evidence of continual improvement of Environmental Management

The standard is generic and does not apply to any particular industry or business sector. It provides a strategic framework that can be used to meet internal and external objectives for Environmental Management.

Whats is ISO 9001?

Most of the international standards begin with the letters “ISO”, the acronym for the “International Organisation for Standardisation.” This worldwide federation of 110 national standards bodies works to promote the growth of manufacturing, trade and communication among business operations worldwide, through the development of generic quality standards.

The most widely recognised standard is ISO 9001, a basic quality management system that can be used in industries of any size, anywhere in the world. Registration to ISO 9001 (or other quality/management standards) provides objective proof that a business has implemented an effective quality management system, and that it satisfies all of the requirements of the applicable standard. An external, impartial expert called a registrar or CB (Certification Body) conducts an on-site audit to determine whether or not a company is in conformance to the standard. If they are found to be in conformance, they will be issued a certificate showing their address, scope of operations and the seals of the accreditation bodies that give the registrar its legitimacy.

The latest revision of the ISO 9001 standard was released in November 2008.
