Barriers at Harlow
The client had not realised that the proximity of the railway station to their private car park would mean that commuters would use their free parking rather than pay for the railway car park.
The private car park is used by more than one of the tenants, which include the Toby Inn and Travelodge Hotel clients’ parking. This meant that a formal method of access control such as a proximity card or token for entrance would not be possible as trades deliveries also take place on a frequent basis and there is also access through this area to residential accommodation to the rear.
The solution was to form a central island with two 3-metre barriers at the entrance and exit position. Free access or exit is achieved by induction loops buried under the roadway at the approach and exit to the car park. Unlawful parking has been dramatically reduced as vehicles approaching are confronted with both the barriers and warning signs advising that the car park is for authorised users only.
